TANJONG BAZAAR

TANJONG BAZAAR

I’d like to introduce you to my new project in collaboration with the lovely Yvette King – we are reporting on the latest on style and Singapore at our new site, Tanjong Bazaar. Do check it out!

the fashion uprising

Blogshops and online stores are huge in the Singapore fashion scene, providing a quick fix of the latest trends and many hours of retail therapy for the desk-bound. However, you never really get to meet the people that make the fashion magic happen.

New collective Chic.Kiss.Love wants to change all of that with an ambitious event called THE FASHION UPRISING.

Image

The event is part-market, part-fashion show, giving you the unusual opportunity to buy what you’ve just seen on the catwalk.

Ten online stores will be showing off their wares with their own pop-up boutiques: Dressabelle, Earl Grey Party, Foggiare, Hollyhoque, Missy Pixie, Momoteapots, The Closet Love, The Design Closet and The Stagewalk. Keep watching caughtcouture.com as we profile some of these online boutiques in the lead-up to the event!

All of this will be brought to life on a huge 650m catwalk winding through the whole of Zouk. And we mean the WHOLE club, all the way from the Wine Bar to The Velvet Underground.

Zouk has been home to many fashion events…and I still remember their crazy fashion show back in 2008 for their 17th birthday:

caughtcouture gets a Strip

Last week we were at the launch of Strip’s Jet Setter Club at The Tippling Club for the exclusive preview of their new loyalty card as well as a tasting of foods inspired from around the globe.

Strip, of course, is a Singapore institution for hair removal. However, what you may not know is that they’re in 9 cities, including caughtcouture favourites Bangkok, Hong Kong, London and Shanghai. The cool thing about the new Jet Setter card is that if you visit Strip in all 9 cities you can travel to a whole new place with free Brazilian waxes for a year. 😉

And now, for the gratuitous food porn from the event. My, The Tippling Club is good.

Thank you to the lovely Grace for inviting me, and to the Strip team for selecting me as one of the best dressed – earning me a Jet Setter card! Here I am with all of the other winners + the (air) hostesses for the afternoon.

Alien chic?

I just had to post this when I saw it…

[from Style Discovery]

The aliens have landed at Perth Fashion Week (aka Jamie Lee’s collection). They could put Elle from Legally Blonde to shame. Like, ohmygodyouguys!

Great to see loads of fashion bloggers being invited to the shows this year, enough for a feature on the ABC?? Congratulations!

Ahoj Zara!

Aussies…

Zara is coming to Australia!

It’s been confirmed that it will open in 2011 in Sydney… Hooray fashionistas!

So now Sydney has Topshop, is soon to have Zara and might just get H&M sometime soon…my next question is…when are they coming to Adelaide??

NAAG

OMG.

Agyness Deyn as a Creative Director?

Yes please!

NYC style is hot wherever you go (Gossip Girl…sigh) but we often forget that it comes with that New York sense of humour and a particular attitude to life that’s part kitsch, part chutzpah and part ‘so now’.

There’s no better exhibit of this than NAAG, the new online fashion mag started up by besties Fiona Byrne and Agyness Deyn.

For example:

They’re writing about New York fashion, shopping, food and culture through the eyes of them and their friends.

You know, like a reality tv show, except with more of the info and less of who totally served it up to who at the frozen yoghurt place yesterday.

NAAG. It’s totally now.

Bloglovin’

You might have noticed a new icon in the sidebar…

Ever since I started reading fashion blogs I’ve had the problem of how to keep track of them. There’s so many amazing blogs out there that even the favourites bar doesn’t cut it.

Then someone put me onto Bloglovin‘, which syndicates all of the blogs into the one page, leaving me to pick what I want to read out of all the new updates. Much, MUCH easier.

So now that I have a blog of my own, I’ve put it on bloglovin’ – if you’re on there, follow me! =)

Miranda//Miranda

Who’s that girl?

Would you believe me if I said it was Miranda Kerr?

This is a still from the disturbingly sexy, badass short film by Greg Kadel for Numero. If you don’t know his name, check out his work – incredible shoots for Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Numero, amongst others.

Go and watch the film at runway comms. (One of my new fave Adelaide blogs btw!)

Wow.

the first step to fame

Everyone has to start somewhere. For most people in the entertainment biz who end up in front of a camera, that start is as an extra.

There’s a South Aussie film being produced called ‘The Thing about Dolphins’ and they’re looking for extras.

It’s one day of filming on June 20 at Wayville Showgrounds and they need 100 people. Don’t worry, it’s not just some random thing – they’re supported by the SA Film Corp and Media Resource Centre.

It should be fun, so check out the details and register!

An aside

Like it or not, because of the choice of clothes available to us the way we dress is one of the ways we use to communicate. What I love about fashion is that freedom to express yourself through what you wear.

So I find it hard to take the argument that ‘we should ban the burqa because nobody should be able to use it to say they’re different’ from a woman wearing half the Eiffel tower around her neck.
